10-km view of Ground Zero
From the control bunker at right, it is 10 km to Ground Zero on the Experimental Field. In the distance some of the experimental structures on the test site, such as the observation towers spaced every kilometer on a radial line originating at Ground Zero, may be seen. It should be noted that most of these structures date from after the LAST surface test at the “P-1” (Ground Zero) site, which occurred in 1962, as they were typically damaged and removed after tests.
