Inside Peach Bottom Atomic Power Station » Circulating water pumps

Circulating water pumps

Circulating water pumps. These massive, 2000-horsepower pumps drive cold water from the Susquehanna River through the station’s condensers to remove waste heat. About 2/3 of the plant’s output power is lost to the circ water (and added to the Susquehanna). On hot days, Peach Bottom must augment its circ water cooling with some small forced-draft cooling towers.
