HPGe Detector, Part I: Repair » HPGe_transistors
A pair of 2SK152 JFETs in parallel have now been installed in place of the original burned-out Ortec transistor. Later on, when I fried this pair due to momentary stupidity, I replaced them with a single 2SK152. Noise performance seems indistinguishable whether using a single or pair. When mounting these transistors, care was taken to use flux-free tin-silver solder (for vacuum compatibility) and to pull all the leads as tight as they go, to help cut down on susceptibility to microphonics.
