HPGe Detector, Part I: Repair » Ge_wrapper
This damage is evidence of high voltage jumping between the crystal housing and the vacuum can, brought about by abnormally high pressure in the can. Needless to say, the FET is guaranteed to be toast when this happens. Replacement plastic can be cut from a transparent report binding sold at OfficeMax. Wash with soap and water, followed by methanol, and dry thoroughly with a heat gun before introducing into the vacuum environment.
